Harold R. Lawary
Co-Founder

On behalf of the board of directors, I proudly honor Harold Lawary, Co-Founder of Writers, Planners, Trainers, Inc., whose lifelong commitment to public service and community empowerment helped shape the heart and mission of our organization.

With academic foundations from Western Illinois University and Midwest College of Theology, Harold brought together faith and service in powerful ways. As Executive Director of WPT, he led with vision and integrity—guiding program development, mentoring staff, and ensuring that every initiative reflected excellence and accountability.

Over more than three decades of service, Harold became a respected leader in HIV prevention, health education, and community outreach throughout the East St. Louis metropolitan region. His work with the Illinois HIV Planning Group and East Side Health District strengthened systems of care, reduced stigma, and created safe spaces for some of the most underserved communities. A gifted communicator and former press secretary, he understood the power of information to inspire change.

Harold’s legacy lives on in every life touched, every program launched, and every community strengthened through his leadership. His unwavering dedication, compassionate spirit, and steadfast belief in empowerment continue to guide our mission and remind us why this work matters.
